Crochet Beer Can Hats, remember?

Who remembers the crochet beer can hats from the 60's and 70's?

Look what I found!   You can also use soda cans for this too.   Now, I just need to actually make one of these hats.   LOL

Flat Knit Stitch on a knitting loom!

I am learning how to do the Flat Knit Stitch on the knitting loom!  Yay!

My first attempts didn't work out well since I was holding the yarn a little too taut across the pegs and that was making the stitches so tight, it was difficult to work the knit stitch.

But I finally have the hang of the Flat Knit Stitch.   :)

Here is a short video of what it looks like:

St. Jude Novena

May 8, 2017

This is a prayer to St. Jude Thaddeus which helped me out many times with things which seem impossible to attain.
Say it 6 times per day for 9 consecutive days.

Most holy apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of.   Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone.  Make use of that particular privilege given to you to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of.

Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and the help of Heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly,

(mention your request),

and that I may praise God with you and all the Elect forever.

I promise, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron and to gratefully encourage devotion to you.   Amen.

Flourless Brownies

Thursday, July 7, 2016:

I have to post this brownie recipe I made for the 4th of July This week.    These were delicious and everyone loved them.    Plus, they are nutritious too since it uses the superfood, cacao (not cocoa), and black beans instead of traditional white flour as in most recipes.

Enjoy!

Flourless Black Bean Brownies.   :)

One 15 oz. can (1 3/4 cups) black beans, well rinsed and drained
2 large eggs
3 tbls coconut oil, melted
3/4 cup cAcAo powder-not cOcOa if you want these to be nutritious (I use Hershey's cAcAo)
1/4 tsp sea salt
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
One heaping 1/2 cup  birch/hardwood xylitol, slightly ground or pulsed in a food processor or coffee grinder for refined texture
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
Optional topping: chopped raw pecans or raw almonds.

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Muffin tin (regular-size):  Grease with coconut oil or line with muffin papers.

Rinse your black beans and drain well.
Place beans and eggs in a food processor and pulse a few times to get the beans chopped and eggs mixed in.

Add remaining ingredients (except nuts) and run on high about 3 minutes.   You will need to stop and scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula during this.

The batter should be the consistency of a typical cake frosting.   If it's too thick, add water a little at a time.

Spoon into muffin tin and add toppings if desired.

Bake for 20-26 minutes or until the tops are dry and the edges start to pull away from the sides, about 20 to 25 minutes.

Remove from oven and let cool for 30 minutes.

Store in an airtight container or refrigerate them, if you like.   The batch I made didn't last a day and everyone loved them.

Optional coconut frosting:

1 can unsweetened full-fat (not lite) coconut milk ("Thai Kitchen" or "A Taste Of Thai" brands are good choices without a lot of unhealthy preservatives)
1/4 cup plus 1 tbls cAcAo powder
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup birch/hardwood xylitol

Place can of coconut milk in the refrigerator several hours or overnight so that the healthy fat can harden.

Open coconut milk (do not shake the can prior to opening).
Spoon out only the creamy part into a bowl (use remaining delicious juice in other things such as smoothies and such).

Using a fork or handheld mixer, whip in your cocoa, vanilla, and sweetener until well mixed.

Top your brownies and store in the refrigerator to thicken the frosting.
Then, enjoy later.

Baby bootie 3 strands

 April 10, 2016:

Hello everyone!

‎Trying something different material-wise with baby booties today.
Using a size 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook and 3 strands of size 10 thread held together, these booties are coming out better than I expected.    The sole is 3.25" long, great for a newborn size.    :)
I have tons of thread I need to use and this will help me do it!   :)

Thank You Notes From Hospital

I received another wonderful thank-you card for the baby hats and booties from the hospital staff at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, Tennessee, back in March, 2016.

These cards are so special to me and it makes it so worthwhile, knowing that these are greatly appreciated and cherished by the recipients!

This just makes my day! :)

Knit Totoro Hat

A-ha! I finally got the hang of changing colors in the middle of a row while knitting with two needles! It's a snap in crocheting, but knitting just had me stumped, especially since I've only been knitting since December of last year. LOL.
Thank goodness the pattern is only knit and purl, since those are the only stitches I know so far.
http://www.ravelry.com/projects/lhamm/totoro-hat
This has been more fun following a block chart and working with two colors. Reminds me of filet crocheting and crochet moez.

On the third row, I was having my doubts if the hat would turn out well but I kept going. Now, I'm glad I didn't give up on it!

This is my progress on the Totoro Hat which I found on Ravelry (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/totoro-hat-6). I also watched the video for this hat on youtube and it was quite helpful. :)
I used some old Natura Wintuck worsted weight acrylic yarn for this hat. This yarn hasn't been made in years and someone recently gave me this old yarn. I accepted graciously because I never turn down yarn! :)

Changing yarn colors

Quick blog post!

This looks like an excellent way to join two yarns together to either continue the same color or start a new color.

I don't know about you, but I really don't like sewing ends into my work, especially into work in which it is hard to hide the ends, like lace crochet or knitting!.

This joining technique opens a lot of options!

Baby Hats/Booties at Horizon Medical Center

February 9, 2016:

Yeah! The baby hats that we made (me, my Mom and her neighbor, Betty Jo), for the Labor and Delivery Unit at the rural hospital, Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, TN, have arrived!  Yippee!

We sent crochet hats and booties made crocheted, tunisian crocheted and loom-knitted.

I received these photos late last night and I couldn't wait to share them! It's so great to know they arrived and are appreciated and most of all, the angel babies will have a special handmade item to wear home from the hospital .

To us, is just so wonderful to see the doctors and nurses with these and wearing their smiles!

Here is what our contact at the hospital  said:

"Thanks so much again for the hats! As you can see they were a big hit! People were really amazed by your talents and generosity!!!! Have a great day!
Caroline"‎

First pattern on ravelry free

I figured it out with the help of my son....how to upload a pdf file to ravelry and for other people to be able to download it.

It wasn't easy and it took about 30 minutes to get it working right, but there is a loom knit baby hat pattern I created! Yippee!

So, if you make hats for a hospital or want to make some as gifts and such, this is a good basic loom knit pattern! :)

See this link for pattern:

Newborn Loom Knit Baby Hat

Newborn Loom Knit Baby Hat

by Lee Ann Hamm Crochet Gotta Love It!

My first pattern I published on Ravelry.com!

I gotta say though that getting the pdf link active on ravelry was not an easy task.   Seemed like I had to go round in circles and kept running into obstacles at every turn.

But my son and I finally did it!

Honeycomb Preemie Hat

December 28, 2015:

Hi everyone,
I just found the neatest and and really fun tunisian ‎crochet stitch from Kim Guzman's book, Tunisian Crochet Stitch Guide.

I bought the book in November but up to today, I had not tried any of the sampler stitches out yet.

This particular sampler pattern is Stitch No. 16 on page 30 of the book.

This is a great book containing 61 pattern sampler stitches.   :)

Knit Hat-Tunisian Crochet Hat Comparison

Yesterday, I moved from knitted swatches to an actual project. I decided on this hat pattern, Fitted Beanie-Easy Knit Pattern at therainbowwarrior.org.

Check it out! I'm knitting! . This "die-hard " crocheter has discovered the joy of knitting needles and taught herself how to knit a little this Thanksgiving week! Yeah!

I was glad to figure out one thing in the directions which might be an omission. After making the ribbed cuff, it says to "K across all rows". Doesn't that make a garter stitch with purl and knit stitches on both sides?

Anyway, I looked it up on YouTube and decided that she must have meant Stockinette stitch for the rest of the hat. I learned that this means knit stitches on one side and pulls on the other.

After this hat is made, I am going to duplicate this in Tunisian crochet using the same yarn and the same size hook; I want to see how the pieces look side-by-side and see if the are the same size or not.

One thing that I am unsure about with knitting is that unlike crochet or tunisian crochet, the project is always on the needle(s) and it's not possible to try it on for size halfway through the project. I'm just not that good at knitting yet, to get a feel for how big it really is while still on the needles. I guess that comes with practice. LOL.

My Facebook page ‎post:

But I am enjoying the heck out of this knitting! This is challenging and a real blast!

Knitting, I'm learning!

November 25, 2015, 3:00 pm CST:

I am learning how to knit at this very moment!‎    I found a very good video on the YouTube channel, americanknitter.‎  This lady has some very good instructions!

I'm getting used to knitting but I find crochet is much easier, probably because crochet is what I first learned to do.  While I was casting on, my left hand started to cramp, but it stopped after a while.

So for today, I learned to cast on, do a knit stitch and do a purl stitch.   I can see how the purl stitch in knitting is similar to a tunisian crochet purl stitch.

This is turning out to be so much fun.    I think I have another yarn craft to look forward to!    Yipee!

Silly Dog Hat

This is Sugar Pie.    :)

This is our sweet little, Cora.    :)

November 20, 2015:

Here's our fur baby,  Cora wearing this hat I made for her..   But it's a little small on her. where the cuff part sits on her head.

So, I tried it on my mom's doggy, Sugar.   It fit her better ‎but she shook it off pretty quickly.

This dog hat is easy and fun to make and works up quickly.    Here is where I found it:

Crochet Clouds!

We took a driving trip this past weekend and my husband says, "You need to take a picture of those clouds".

I had just mentioned that they looked like a  crochet edging‎ with picots.    LOL

I'm so glad I took this photo!   :). This was taken near Shreveport, Louisiana.

Slouchy Hat-Time!

November 8, 2015:
‎This is my first time to use this pretty yarn by Yarn Bee (aka, Hobby Lobby), called Fireside.   This color I'm using is, Party Time.    It's a size #5 yarn and it comes in a 6 oz /170 gram skein.   It has 185 yards/170 meters in the skein.

I think I like the Fireside yarn better than the one by Lionbrand called, Homespun yarn.   But I love Homespun too!

I am really enjoying  the long striping which the has before it changes colors!

I'm making a slouchy hat design called, Easy Perfect Fit Hat Pattern from Jayda InStitches on youtube.com.

Tunisian Crochet Pulled Gather!

September 29, 2015:

I finally came up with a way to do a tunisian crochet finishing gather such as at the top of a hat, instead of doing several rows of decreases.     Yippee!

This is for a hat worked in rows using a regular tunisian or afghan stitch crochet hook.    I have not figured out how to do this with a double-ended tunisian hook, but that would be a neat thing to figure out.

In this particular example, I am using the "I Love This Yarn" by Hobby Lobby (worsted weight #4 yarn),  and a size M/N, 9.00 mm, US #13 size tunisian hook

My tunisian decreases don't look too good and I like the look of this pulled gather much better anyway.

I have a video of how to do this pulled gather on my YouTube  channel‎, if you would like to see this.
http://youtu.be/3wxxvDeBJ7U

On the last row of your work and after completing the forward pass, you simply pull through all of those loops on your hook at one time instead of working them off two at a time.

That's it; it's very simple to do.   I thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you view and enjoy the video too.

Please take a moment to subscribe and also to subscribe to my YouTube channel (see below).

Madcap and Angel Fleece Yarn Preemie Hats

September 23,2015:

I love this Madcap and Angel Fleece yarn for preemie hats! So soft!

Has anyone ever used the Madcap yarn before?

What are some good things to make with it besides hats?

I picked up a skein of soft green and 3 skeins of orange - all on the clearance rack!    Yeah!
